Clothes for a Cause
Tonight the second annual Project Art fund-raiser hosted by Project Paz to benefit the community of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, takes place at 83 Mercer Street in New York City.

In partnership with the e-commerce site L-atitude, the event will introduce a selection of one-off pieces made by American designers using traditional Mexican textiles, all of which will be sold during the event and exclusively at shoplatitude.com, with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to Project Paz.

Participating designers include Thakoon, Eddie Borgo, 3.1. Phillip Lim, Peter Som and Michael Bastian. “I wanted this biker jacket to embrace the Mexican rebozo,” said Phillip Lim of the piece he contributed. Other designers, like Christian Cota, who grew up in Mexico and has seen firsthand how the organization has transformed the gang-ridden community of Juárez, have more direct ties to the project.

Of his dress he says, “I really wanted the purple embroidery to pop in a clean, easy 1920s silhouette.” New and noteworthy on this year’s roster are David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone, who stuck to their signature style. “The angular lines, strong tailoring and leather accent are all traditional Rag & Bone,” say the designers.
